5 Amazing Marketing Lessons to Take From Game of Thrones

Did any of you happen to catch the latest episode of Game of Thrones “the final season” on DSTV ?

It’s pretty intense…

GOT has been winning awards, and pulling millions of viewers every week during the season. Dragons, zombies, love, betrayal, and sword fights-there’s something for everyone!

Every time there’s a season finale of Game of Thrones, the internet breaks. Today, I want to share with you “Five Amazing Marketing Lessons to Take From Game of Thrones”

1. Get People Talking About You. (1. Use word of mouth to build excitement)

If you have been following me for awhile, you will remember one of my Instagram post on how you really need to create “Brand Evangelist” to get word out about your brand or business.

Daenerys has spent her entire life in exile, yet celebrated warriors like Jorah Mormont and Ser Barristan leave their lives to join her cause. Varys and Tyrion(One of my favorite character), a rival Lannister, agreed to take up her claim to the throne without ever meeting her.

So, Here is the takeaway here;

*Use word of mouth to build excitement “before and after” the launch of your brand.

2. Never underestimate the power of a good strategy.

As we know my favorite character “Tyrion Lannister” is obviously physical limitation, born into a family of unpleasant characters ‘Twin, Cersei, Jamie and so on’, for several seasons his prospects looked grim.

However, Tyrion has an upper hand his competitors lack- a STRONG strategic prospective and a vision for long-term goals.

The takeaway here is;

In brand world, a good marketing strategy will produce a remarkable results no matter the size and budget of your brand or business.

3) You win over crowds with consistency

One thing I like about John Snow is, he picked the Night’s Watch and have stayed true to one consistent message ” to always defend the wall” which make him favorite among his brothers even in “The North”.

Here is the takeaway;

Audiences appreciate a consistent message, especially if you can deliver on your promises. Deliver good services, good marketing, build a brand loyalty with your customers and you will have them declaring you “The King in The North”

4. Storytelling rules the world

How many times have you watch the heroic “Battle of the Bastards” episode written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss ?

 Geez! That episode was epic and was one of the most successful, single-handedly the most expensive  GOT episode ever.

HBO is also letting the fans and bloggers join the conversation by re-tweeting their insights. All those Tweets, memes and rumors actually enhance the experience while costing HBO no extra money.

Like the latest mind-blogger: Is Bran Stark the Night-King ?

Here is the takeaway;

Anyone can join into narrative these day, your followers, audience, even fans. As long as your story is exciting and worth sharing, your brand reputation will soar which means more exposure and definately more revenue.

5. Winter is finally here — and only the prepared will survive.

For years, people of the north have foretold “Winter is Coming”. Few of the Northerners has experienced winter, it was even foretold that the coming winter will be the worse ever winter the north has ever seen.

Likewise, marketers have been predicting a change in consumer behavior, taking audience away from traditional outbound marketing (TV commercials, radio ads, print advertisements (newspaper ads, magazine ads, flyers) and towards inbound marketing(Social media campaigns, eBooks, Search Engine Optimized (SEO), Viral videos and many more).

Like winter’s long-awaited arrival, finally we are starting to see this predicted shift in marketing become reality.

You need to stay ahead to win, you need to be ready to change your strategy from flyers to digital advertisement because of consumer behavior.
