GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is a point-to-multipoint fiber optic technology that delivers video, data, and voice services over a single optical fiber. It uses a passive optical splitter to share a single fiber from the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) to multiple end users, typically supporting split ratios up to 1:64, meaning one fiber can serve up to 64 residences or offices (Torque IP) . GPON networks are energy-efficient, reduce cabling requirements, and eliminate distance constraints compared to traditional copper networks.
