Step-by-Step Disassembly

  3. Release the Wedge Clip or Retaining Clip: Many cold connectors use a wedge clip to secure the fiber. Carefully disengage the clip using a small flathead screwdriver or by gently squeezing the top and bottom of the clip until it clicks free .
  4. Extract the Fiber: Gently pull the fiber out of the ferrule. Avoid bending the fiber sharply, as this can cause micro-cracks or breakage .
  5. Inspect Components: Check the ferrule, clip, and connector housing for damage or contamination. Clean all parts with lint-free wipes and alcohol if necessary .
  6. Optional – Separate Ferrule from Housing: Some connectors allow the ferrule to be removed from the housing for polishing or replacement. Use tweezers carefully to avoid scratching the ferrule tip .

Reassembly Considerations

  • Ensure the fiber is clean and properly cleaved before reinserting into the ferrule .
  • Re-engage the wedge clip or retaining clip securely.
  • Slide the protective boot back into place.
