Key Wires and Their Functions

Live (L) Wire: This is the phase or hot wire that carries current from the main supply into the distribution box. It connects to the line terminal of circuit breakers, which control the flow of electricity to individual circuits . Neutral (N) Wire: The neutral wire completes the electrical circuit by returning current to the supply. In single-pole (1P) breakers, the neutral bypasses the breaker and connects directly to the neutral busbar. In double-pole (2P) breakers, both live and neutral wires are switched simultaneously for full isolation . Protective Earth (PE) Wire: This wire connects to the earth busbar and provides a path to ground, protecting against electric shocks and earth faults. It is essential for RCDs or RCBOs that detect leakage currents .

Circuit Breakers and Safety Devices

Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs): Protect individual circuits from overcurrent or short circuits. They trip automatically if the current exceeds the rated limit . Residual Current Devices (RCDs) / RCBOs: Detect leakage currents and disconnect the circuit to prevent electric shocks. RCBOs combine overcurrent and earth fault protection in one device . Busbars: Metal strips that distribute power to multiple breakers. The neutral busbar collects all neutral wires, and the earth busbar collects all protective earth wires . Main Switch: Controls the entire supply entering the distribution box, allowing complete isolation for maintenance or emergencies .

Each wire and breaker should be clearly labeled to indicate the circuit it controls. Proper labeling helps in quickly identifying circuits during maintenance or emergencies and ensures compliance with safety regulations .
