Top-of-Rack (ToR) refers to a network switch placed at the top of a server rack, connecting all servers within the rack and simplifying data center networking.

Overview

A Top-of-Rack (ToR) switch is installed at the upper section of a server rack and serves as the primary connection point for all servers in that rack. Each server connects to the ToR switch using short copper or optical cables, which then aggregates the traffic and uplinks it to higher-level aggregation or core switches .
