Overview

A distribution box is a central hub in electrical systems, used in homes, offices, factories, and industrial plants. It divides incoming electrical power into individual circuits, ensuring safe and efficient distribution. It also houses protective devices such as circuit breakers, fuses, RCDs, RCBOs, surge protective devices, and isolators to prevent overloads, short circuits, and earth faults, protecting both people and equipment .

Distribution: Splits the main supply into multiple outgoing circuits.
Protection: Disconnects faulty circuits automatically using breakers or fuses.
Isolation: Allows safe disconnection for maintenance or emergencies.

Busbars: Conductors for distributing power to multiple circuits.
Neutral and Earth bars: Organize return and grounding connections.
Surge Protective Devices (SPDs): Protect against voltage spikes.

Control Box: Contains switches, relays, and PLCs to regulate machinery or processes, rather than distributing power.
Junction Box: Primarily for connecting and branching cables safely, without protection or control functions .

When choosing a distribution box, consider:

Application: Residential, commercial, industrial, solar, or temporary power.
Supply system: Single-phase, three-phase, AC/DC, and earthing type.
Number of circuits: Include spare ways for future expansion.
Protection strategy: MCB, RCCB, RCBO, SPD, AFDD, or main breaker.
Rated current and short-circuit capacity: Based on load and fault current.
Enclosure protection: IP rating, material, UV and corrosion resistance, impact protection, and mounting method.
