VLANs on a Huijue core switch are configured by creating VLAN IDs, assigning ports as Access or Trunk, and optionally setting up SVIs for inter-VLAN routing.

Step 1: Create VLANs

  1. Access the switch via console, SSH, or web interface with administrator privileges.
  2. Enter VLAN configuration mode and create VLANs with unique IDs:

    vlan name For example, to create VLAN 10 for data:

Step 2: Assign Ports

  • Access Ports: Assign ports connected to end devices to a specific VLAN:

  • Trunk Ports: Configure uplink ports connecting to other switches to carry multiple VLANs:

  • Hybrid Ports: If a port needs to carry both tagged and untagged traffic:

  • Uplink Ports: For core-to-core or core-to-distribution links:

    switchportmodeuplink These configurations ensure Layer-2 isolation and proper VLAN tagging across the network .

Step 3: Configure SVIs for Layer-3 Routing

  1. On a Layer-3 capable core switch, create Switched Virtual Interfaces (SVIs) for each VLAN to enable inter-VLAN communication:

  2. Each SVI acts as the default gateway for devices in that VLAN .

Step 4: Verification and Saving Configuration

  • Verify VLANs and port assignments:

    display vlandisplay interface brief

  • Check trunk status and allowed VLANs:

    display trunk

  • Save the configuration to ensure persistence after reboot:

    save

  • Use display vlan-switch to confirm VLAN switching entries and operational status .

Best Practices

  • Plan VLAN IDs and names consistently across all switches to avoid conflicts.
  • Use VLAN pruning to limit unnecessary VLAN traffic on trunk links.
  • Ensure native VLANs are consistent on both ends of a trunk.
  • Regularly verify VLAN membership and SVI IP addresses to prevent misconfigurations . By following these steps, you can segment your network efficiently, maintain Layer-2 isolation, and enable Layer-3 routing between VLANs on a Huijue core switch.
