Many SFP modules have markings or triangles indicating Tx and Rx directions . If the device LED does not light up, re-seat the module and confirm compatibility with the host equipment .

Step 2: Check Optical Power

Use a Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM/DOM) feature if available to read real-time transmit and receive power. Typical values should fall within the module's specifications; abnormal readings may indicate a faulty module, fiber, or excessive distance . If DDM is unavailable, an optical power meter can measure the optical signal at the receiving end .
