Installation of Explosion-proof Distribution Box Panel

Installation of Explosion-proof Distribution Box Panel

Page Content

Install the panel by securely mounting the enclosure, connecting certified explosion-proof cables to the terminals, properly grounding the box, and sealing all covers according to safety standards.

Preparation and Safety

Before installation, ensure the power supply is completely turned off to prevent electrical hazards or sparks (IEC, NEC, or local regulations) . Only qualified personnel should perform the installation. Verify that all cables, connectors, and components are rated for hazardous areas (EX or ATEX certified) and resistant to flame, impact, and mechanical damage .

Mounting the Enclosure

  1. Select a secure location that provides strength and rigidity to support the panel and internal wiring. Avoid areas prone to collisions, heat, moisture, or corrosion .
  2. Mount the enclosure using appropriate fasteners, ensuring the installation inclination does not exceed 5 degrees .
  3. If outdoors, fit a rain cover to prevent water ingress and rust .

Wiring the Panel

  1. Open the terminal chamber cover and route the incoming and outgoing cables through certified cable glands .
  2. Connect the live, neutral, and earth wires to their respective terminals. Use a multimeter or continuity tester to verify correct connections .
  3. Ensure internal and external grounding is properly connected to the dedicated earth terminal to prevent electrical shocks or fire risks .
  4. Tighten all terminal screws securely and ensure no loose connections exist .

Sealing and Final Checks

  1. Close the terminal chamber cover and secure it with fasteners, ensuring the explosion-proof joint surfaces are not scratched or damaged .
  2. Apply anti-rust oil on joint surfaces if maintenance is performed .
  3. Verify that all unused entries are plugged with certified blanking elements and that conduit seals are installed where required .
  4. Perform a visual and mechanical inspection to ensure proper installation and compliance with hazardous location standards .

Maintenance and Inspection

  • Regularly inspect the distribution box for damage, corrosion, or loose connections .
  • Ensure the box remains properly grounded and sealed.
  • Follow manufacturer-specific instructions for any additional components or accessories . By following these steps, the explosion-proof distribution box panel will be safely installed, compliant with standards, and ready for operation in hazardous environments.
