Overview of PoE on Huawei Switches

Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows Huawei switches to supply power to network devices through Ethernet cables, eliminating the need for separate power adapters. A PoE system consists of Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE), which is the switch, and Powered Devices (PDs), such as IP phones, wireless access points, cameras, and POS machines . PoE simplifies installation, especially for devices located in hard-to-reach areas or outdoors, and supports centralized power management .

Supported Switch Models

Only certain Huawei switch models support PoE. Typically, models with PWR or PWH in their names or specific modular cards like ES0D0G48VA00 (S7700) and LE0DG48VEA00 (S9300) support PoE power supply . Downlink electrical interfaces on these switches can provide up to 30 W per port, with a maximum power supply distance of 100 meters .

PoE Standards

Huawei switches may support PoE, PoE+, and PoE++, which differ in maximum power output per port. These standards allow flexible powering of devices with varying energy requirements. The switches also support LLDP-based power negotiation, perpetual power supply, and fast power-on features .

Configuration and Management

PoE can be enabled or disabled on individual interfaces using the following commands:
