The spliced fibers are then stored in splice trays within the box to protect them from bending and mechanical stress . 2. Mechanical Splicing: An alternative to fusion splicing, mechanical splicing aligns the fiber ends using a gel or mechanical fixture. This method is faster but generally has slightly higher insertion loss compared to fusion splicing . 3. Adapter and Connector Connections: ODBs often include adapters that allow plug-and-play connections with fiber patch cords. This method is used for flexible deployment, testing, or temporary connections. Common connectors include SC, LC, or FC types, which can be inserted or removed as needed . 4.   • Slack Management: Extra fiber is coiled and stored in trays to maintain minimum bending radius and prevent damage .
